about
I Want To Be You is a song that struck me when I first heard it several years ago. As a trans lady, especially earlier in life/transition, the lyrics of this song aptly describe the pain of not being who I was intended to be, and feeling conflicted over beautiful cis ladies who I was both attracted to, and wanted to be.
We also chose to cover this song since our band shared a similar 3-piece, all femme lineup as Your Funeral back in 1982.
Singer/songwriter Jeri Cain Rossi went on to perform with several other bands and continues to write music as a solo artist: jericainrossi.bandcamp.com
This song was recorded with permission.
lyrics
Lyrics:
I wanna be you
Don't wanna be me
I want walk like you
And wear your things
I'm living why
I wanna be you
Say the things you do
I want to kill myself
Come back as you
I'm living why
I want to walk in this room
All eyes on me
But you are a thief
You steal the glory
I'm living why

It's uncanny just how good Actors is at emulating that Post-Punk synth sound from my younger days.
Each listen just gets better and better. I feel slightly ashamed for not having heard this album until a few short days ago. modestwriggles
